Ultra High Power Graphite Electrodes UHP 300–600mm
Ultra High Power Graphite Electrodes are selected by furnace electrical load, electrode diameter and connection requirements rather than by the UHP grade name alone. The current product specification covers UHP electrode diameters from 300 to 600 mm, with corresponding electrical resistivity, mechanical strength, bulk density, thermal expansion and current-carrying data.
Before ordering, you should confirm the required diameter, operating current, electrode length, nipple connection and furnace conditions together. These parameters determine whether the electrode specification matches your EAF or LF equipment.
UHP Graphite Electrode Diameter and Current Selection
Electrode diameter and electrical load should be evaluated together. The current reference data covers 300-600 mm UHP graphite electrodes. As electrode diameter increases, the available current range generally increases as well, but the correct diameter should follow your furnace electrical system rather than size alone.
| Nominal Diameter (mm) | Current-Carrying Capacity (A) | Current Density (A/cm²) |
| 300 | 15000-22000 | 20-30 |
| 350 | 20000-30000 | 20-30 |
| 400 | 25000-40000 | 19-30 |
| 450 | 32000-45000 | 19-27 |
| 500 | 38000-55000 | 18-27 |
| 550 | 45000-70000 | 18-27 |
| 600 | 50000-97000 | 18-27 |
300-400mm UHP Graphite Electrodes
The current reference range increases from 15,000-22,000 A for 300 mm UHP electrodes to 25,000-40,000 A for 400 mm. These sizes should be checked against the actual furnace current, holder arrangement and electrode-column requirement.
450-500mm UHP Graphite Electrodes
The listed current range is 32,000-45,000 A for 450 mm and 38,000-55,000 A for 500 mm. The current-density range for the 500 mm specification is 18-27 A/cm².
550-600mm UHP Graphite Electrodes
The larger 550 mm and 600 mm specifications cover higher reference current ranges. A larger UHP electrode is not automatically the correct choice; furnace transformer capacity, operating current, holder dimensions and electrode-column configuration should be considered together.

Ultra High Power Graphite Electrode Electrical and Mechanical Properties
A UHP graphite electrode specification should not be judged from current capacity alone. Electrical resistivity, flexural strength, elastic modulus, bulk density and coefficient of thermal expansion describe different electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics of the electrode system.

The electrode and nipple values are shown separately because both parts contribute to the assembled electrode column. When comparing specifications, make sure the values refer to the same component and diameter range.
UHP Graphite Electrode Nipple Connection for Furnace Columns
UHP graphite electrodes are consumed during furnace operation, so individual electrode sections are connected to form an electrode column. The connection uses a threaded socket in the electrode end together with a matching graphite nipple.
The nipple should therefore be confirmed together with the electrode rather than treated as an unrelated accessory.
Electrode Diameter
Confirm the diameter required by your furnace and electrode holder.
UHP Electrode Nipple
Confirm the matching nipple and connection specification with the electrode.
Electrode Length
State the required length together with diameter when requesting supply.
UHP Graphite Electrodes for EAF and LF Steelmaking
UHP graphite electrodes are used where the furnace requires graphite electrodes to conduct electrical current and generate the arc used during melting or refining.
UHP Graphite Electrodes for Electric Arc Furnaces
For EAF operation, the UHP electrode diameter should be matched to the furnace electrical system, operating current and electrode holder. Current capacity and electrode dimensions should therefore be checked together.
UHP Graphite Electrodes for Ladle Furnaces
For LF refining, confirm the required electrode diameter, electrical load and column configuration according to the equipment specification. The UHP grade name alone does not determine whether a particular electrode size matches the furnace.

How to Specify Ultra High Power Graphite Electrodes for an RFQ
A useful UHP graphite electrode inquiry should start with the furnace requirement and electrode dimensions rather than only asking for a UHP price.

Ultra High Power Graphite Electrode FAQ
Q: How Do I Choose The Diameter Of A UHP Graphite Electrode?
A: Start from the electrode dimensions required by your furnace and compare them with the operating-current range. The current product data covers 300-600 mm diameters. Diameter, current load, holder dimensions and nipple connection should be confirmed together.
Q: What Is The Current Capacity Of A 500mm UHP Graphite Electrode?
A: The current reference table lists 38,000-55,000 A for a 500 mm UHP graphite electrode, with a current-density range of 18-27 A/cm². The final electrode selection should still match your actual furnace operating conditions.
Q: Why Is Electrical Resistivity Important For UHP Graphite Electrodes?
A: Electrical resistivity is one of the parameters used to evaluate current conduction through the electrode. It should be considered together with diameter, current density, bulk density, mechanical strength and thermal-expansion data rather than used as a single quality indicator.
Q: Why Do UHP Graphite Electrodes Need Nipples?
A: Individual UHP electrodes are connected to form a longer electrode column. The graphite nipple joins adjacent electrode sections through the threaded sockets, so nipple compatibility needs to be confirmed with the electrode diameter and connection specification.
Q: What Information Is Needed For A UHP Graphite Electrode Quotation?
A: Send the UHP grade, electrode diameter, required length, furnace or operating-current information, nipple requirement, quantity, technical specification, packing and destination. These details allow the quotation to be matched to the actual furnace requirement.
