In industry, 441 Industrial Silicon is usually prepared by reducing carbon dioxide to silicon dioxide in an electric furnace. The following is the chemical equation for silicon metal: SiO2 + 2C → Si + 2CO The purity of silicon thus obtained is 98-99%, and the product produced under this chemical reaction is called silicon metal. In the metallurgical foundry industry, Silicon Metal 441 is used as a non-ferrous alloy additive and silicon steel alloying agent, thus improving steel hardenability.
