The specific uses of ferrosilicon powder are as follows:
1: Used as deoxidiser and alloying agent in the field of steelmaking industry;
Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, thus ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent when smelting structural steel, tool steel, spring steel, and silicon steel for transformers.
2: Used as inoculant and spheroidising agent in cast iron industry.
Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon in cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron, promote the precipitation of graphite and spheroidisation, so in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important breeder (to help precipitate graphite) and spheroidising agent.
3: Used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production
Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, but also the carbon content of high silica ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high silica ferrosilicon (or silica alloy) is a kind of reducing agent commonly used in the production of low carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.
4:. Uses in other areas. Finely ground or atomised treated ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspension phase in the mineral processing industry.
