Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire

 

Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire uses a solid metallic calcium core protected by an outer steel cover for controlled calcium addition during secondary refining. Unlike CaSi or CaFe cored wire, it introduces metallic calcium without relying on a calcium-silicon or calcium-iron alloy core.

This makes it a useful option when the steel chemistry is already close to its final target and additional Si or other accompanying alloy elements need to be limited. Among the different alloy cored wire options for steelmaking, Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire can be considered when a more direct calcium source with limited accompanying alloy input is required.

During treatment, the wire is fed into molten steel through a wire feeding system. The outer steel cover protects the solid calcium core during handling and feeding before the calcium is released into the molten steel.

 

 

Our Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire is available in 9–9.5 mm and 10–10.5 mm diameters. The corresponding outer cover thickness, outer cover weight and calcium core weight should be confirmed together according to the required wire specification and existing feeding equipment.

Direct Metallic Calcium Addition

Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire introduces solid metallic calcium directly into molten steel rather than supplying calcium through a CaSi or CaFe alloy core.

This gives the steelmaker another option when calcium is the main treatment element required during secondary refining.

Limited Additional Silicon Input

CaSi cored wire introduces both calcium and silicon. When the remaining silicon range is already narrow, further Si addition may not be preferred.

Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire allows calcium treatment to be carried out without relying on CaSi as the calcium source, giving more flexibility when the steel is close to its final composition.

Defined Calcium Core Weight per Metre

The amount of calcium contained in each metre of wire is an important part of the product specification.

With a confirmed calcium core weight per metre, the required calcium addition can be related more clearly to the feeding length. For repeat production, consistency in this value helps maintain an established feeding practice from one batch to the next.

Protected Solid Calcium Core

Metallic calcium is highly reactive, so the condition of the core during storage, handling and feeding is important.

The outer steel structure of Seamless Pure Calcium Cored Wire protects the solid calcium core before it is released into molten steel. Actual treatment performance still depends on the steel condition and feeding process rather than on the wire specification alone.

 

 

The choice of calcium cored wire depends on how calcium needs to be introduced and which accompanying elements can still be accepted in the steel.

Calcium Content Analysis

The calcium core is checked against the confirmed chemical specification.

For the specifications shown on this page, the required calcium content of the core is ≥97%. Batch inspection records or COA can be used to compare the supplied chemistry with the agreed requirement.

Wire Diameter Inspection

The finished wire diameter is checked according to the confirmed wire specification.

Available specifications include 9–9.5 mm and 10–10.5 mm. Diameter should also be compatible with the feeding equipment already used in the plant.

Outer Cover Thickness Inspection

The outer steel cover is checked against the corresponding wire specification.

The listed specifications use outer cover thicknesses of 1.0 ± 0.2 mm and 1.5 ± 0.2 mm, depending on the selected wire diameter.

Calcium Core Weight per Metre

Calcium core weight per metre is particularly important because it determines how much metallic calcium is contained in a defined feeding length.

For the listed specifications, the calcium core weight is ≥52 g/m. Maintaining this value consistently is especially important for repeat orders based on established feeding parameters.

Batch Inspection and Third-Party Verification

Production batches can be identified against the corresponding specification and inspection records.

Where independent verification is required, third-party inspection can be arranged according to the agreed inspection items before shipment.
