Tungsten Filament Uses - Incandescent Lamps

The main use of tungsten filament is as filament in incandescent lamps. Incandescent lamps energize and heat tungsten filaments to an incandescent state, using thermal radiation to emit visible light. The filament in an incandescent bulb is made of very thin tungsten wire. When the electric lamp is working normally, the temperature reaches above 2000°C. Although it does not reach the melting point of tungsten wire of 3370°C, such high temperature can evaporate some atoms on the surface of the tungsten wire.

Tungsten wire use-incandescent lamp advantages:

1. The melting point of tungsten wire is high and reaches the required white-hot temperature. The temperature of the filament when it emits light is as high as more than 2,000 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, most metals have melted, except for tungsten, which has a melting point as high as more than 3,400 degrees Celsius.
2. Cheap price. Conducive to the widespread promotion of tungsten filament light bulbs.
3. Tungsten wire has high resistance and poor conductivity. Under the condition of equal energization time, tungsten generates more heat than other metals.
4. Chemically stable. It has strong anti-oxidation ability and is not suitable to change with other substances in the air, which enhances the life of tungsten filament bulbs.
