FeSi65 Buying Guide: Specification, Sizing and Cost Comparison

1. The FeSi65 Specification

FeSi65 contains about 65% silicon, with iron as the main balance and controlled aluminium, calcium, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus. The specification should state the minimum silicon content, the impurity limits and the acceptable size range. Buyers should compare certificates element by element, because the silicon percentage alone does not define the quality.

2. Applications and Grade Fit

FeSi65 is used where a moderate silicon addition is required at lower cost: foundry inoculation, deoxidation in foundry steel, silicon adjustment and ferroalloy production. Compared with FeSi72 and FeSi75, it delivers less silicon per ton but at a lower price per ton. The grade fits applications where the higher iron input is acceptable.

3. Particle Size and Packaging

The particle size is selected by the addition method: 10 to 50 mm or 10 to 100 mm lumps for furnace additions, 1 to 10 mm granules for fine dosing, and powder for injection. The fines content should be controlled, and packaging options include 1 ton big bags, 25 kg and 50 kg bags, with palletizing for export. The size and packing are confirmed at the quotation stage.

4. Cost Comparison

The comparison must be made on the delivered cost per unit of silicon: divide the delivered price per ton by the silicon fraction. A grade with a higher price per ton but higher silicon content can be cheaper per unit. The delivered cost includes freight, duties and handling, so the comparison basis must be identical.

5. Quality Verification

Check the certificate of analysis against the contract limits.

Verify the size distribution and fines content on receipt.

Arrange third-party inspection for weight and composition when required.

Retain a sealed sample for dispute resolution.

Evaluate the material in a trial lot in your own process.

6. Supplier Checklist

Confirm the furnace and grade control of the supplier.

Request the certificate per batch with traceability.

Confirm the delivery terms, lead time and packing.

Review the claim process for off-grade material.

7. FAQ

Q1: What is the silicon content of FeSi65? About 65%, with iron as the main balance.

Q2: What is FeSi65 used for? Foundry inoculation, moderate deoxidation, silicon adjustment and ferroalloy production.

Q3: What sizes are available? Lumps of 10 to 100 mm, granules of 1 to 10 mm and powder.

Q4: How should FeSi65 be compared with higher grades? On the delivered cost per unit of silicon, with the same specification basis.

Q5: What documents support acceptance? The certificate of analysis, packing list and, if arranged, third-party inspection reports.

Q6: Why run a trial lot? To verify the silicon recovery and process behavior in your own application before committing volume.
