Ferrosilicon in steelmaking is the role of deoxidizer, used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. (1) Ferro Silicon is an essential deoxidiser in the steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. Brickiron is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking.

(2)Ferro Silicon is used as an inoculant and spheroidising agent in the cast iron industry. In the production of ductile iron,  ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (to help precipitate graphite) and spheroidising agent.
(3) Ferro Silicon is used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production. There is a great chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen, but high silica ferrosilicon has a very low carbon content. Therefore, high silica ferrosilicon (or siliceous alloy) is a reducing agent commonly used in producing low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.

Ferrosilicon is smelted in an electric furnace with coke, steel chips, and quartz (or silica) as raw materials. The main steps are as follows:

• Raw material preparation: Select high-purity silicon and iron ore as raw materials. Silicon ore is processed by crushing, grinding, etc., and iron ore is processed by crushing, magnetic separation, etc.
• Mixed smelting: The processed silicon ore and iron ore are mixed in a certain proportion and then put into a high-temperature electric furnace for smelting. During the smelting process, a certain amount of coke is added as a reducing agent to reduce the iron oxide in the iron ore to metallic iron.
• Alloy adjustment: During the smelting process, the silicon content of ferrosilicon is adjusted as needed. This can be achieved by adding an appropriate amount of silica or other alloys with a high silicon content.
• Cooling out of the furnace: After the smelting is completed, the molten ferrosilicon is poured into the mold and taken out after cooling and solidification.
