70 FeSi Description
70 FeSi is smelted in open and closed electric furnaces with a coal lining. When loading the mixture into the furnace, it mixes well. The electrodes of the electric furnace are deeply immersed in the charge and charge slopes are constantly maintained around them, making it difficult for gases to escape and reducing the loss of heat and silicon. In the presence of a reducing agent, carbon, at high temperature, silicon is reduced to solid carbon. If the reducing agent is in excess, silicon carbide is formed, which is destroyed in the presence of iron. Iron also improves the conditions for silicon reduction, which occurs at lower temperatures. Finished ferrosilicon alloys contain up to 0.1% carbon.
