Ferrosilicon is a mixture of silicon and iron. It contains between 15 and 90% silicon. It is widely used in the metallurgical industry, especially in the production of steel and cast iron. Its main function is to improve the mechanical properties of metals, such as strength and corrosion resistance.
It is produced in electric furnaces at a temperature of about 1500-2000 degrees Celsius.
