Ferro silicon 65 is an iron-silicon alloy. It is used as a deoxidiser in steel production. This means that it reacts with oxygen to form a stable silicate slag. The exothermic reaction (heat production) during steelmaking helps maintain the temperature of the molten steel in the ladles.
