Petroleum coke is produced through a process of distilling crude oil, whereby the lighter components are separated from the heavier ones. The heavier components are then converted into petroleum coke through a process of hot cracking. If petroleum coke is obtained directly from petroleum processing, it is classified as raw or ordinary coke.
