Application Of Silicon Metal In The Steel Industry

Deoxidiser: Silicon metal is an effective deoxidiser that can remove oxygen during the steel smelting process, preventing the formation of oxide inclusions in the steel and thus improving the quality of the steel.

 

Alloying element: Silicon metal can be added as an alloying element when producing specific types of alloy steel to increase the strength, hardness and heat resistance of the steel. Silicon also has a certain effect on improving the wear resistance and oxidation resistance of steel.

 

Improves casting properties: In the production of cast iron, silicon metal is used to improve the flowability and casting properties of the cast iron and prevent casting defects such as shrinkage and pores.

 

Improves the properties of magnetic materials: Silicon metal is also used to make silicon steel, i.e. electrical steel, which has high magnetic permeability and low loss, and is widely used in the production of transformers and electric motors.

 

Powder metallurgy: In powder metallurgy materials, silicon metal can be used as a lubricant and flux to improve the flowability and formability of the powder.
