Ferrosilicon pellets can be used not only in the steelmaking industry, but are also a commonly used metallurgical material in the iron casting industry. This is mainly because ferrosilicon granules can be used by iron casting manufacturers as a substitute for inoculants and spherulites, while ferrosilicon granules are much less expensive than steel in the iron casting industry and easier to melt.
1. Deoxidiser and alloying agent. In the steel making industry, there is a great chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen, so ferrosilicon pellets are powerful deoxidising agents used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidisation. In the steelmaking industry, ferrosilicon powder can release a large amount of heat at high temperatures and is usually used as a heating agent for ingot caps to improve ingot quality and recovery.
2. Inoculant and spheroidising agent. Cast iron industry is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, excellent casting performance, seismic capacity is much better than steel. Especially ductile iron, its mechanical properties reach or close to the mechanical properties of steel.
3. Reducing agent. Silicon and oxygen in the production of ferroalloys have a great chemical affinity, high silica ferrosilicon particles have a low carbon content. So high silicon silicon iron powder is a kind of reducing agent more commonly used in the production of low carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.
