45% High Quality Ferrosilicon

Ferrosilicon FS45 is produced in closed electric furnaces, and more Si-rich alloys of FS75 - FS92 grades - in open (without a vault) furnaces due to abundant SiO (gas) formation. Production of ferrosilicon, as well as crystalline Si, is very energy-intensive. To produce ferrosilicon FS45, 4800 kWh/t of electricity is consumed.

Ferrosilicon is used for deoxidising and alloying of steel, alloys, cast irons. Si-rich (> 90 %) ferrosilicon is used for obtaining very fine SiO2 by preliminary chlorination of Si to form SiCl4 and its subsequent hydrolysis. Poor ferrosilicon (~ 15 % Si) in finely dispersed form (fractions < 40 microns) is used as a weighting agent for aqueous media in mineral processing (chromite ore, magnesite, etc.).
