The main substances in silicon manganese nitride alloy (MnSiN) are manganese nitride (Mn5N2) and silicon nitride (Si3N4). Manganese plays a role in deoxidation, desulfurization and alloying in steelmaking. Manganese can weaken the thermal brittleness caused by sulfur, thereby improving the hot workability of steel; it can also refine the pearlite grains and increase the strength of pearlitic steel, and can also improve the hardenability of steel. Silicon nitride has high temperature thermal stability, thermal shock resistance, hot and cold shock resistance, chemical stability, good electrical insulation and hardness.
Silicon manganese nitride alloy is compatible with the special properties of silicon nitride and manganese nitride, and its performance is better when silicon, manganese and nitrogen are combined at the same time. There are currently five preparation methods for silicon manganese nitride alloys: vacuum sintering, secondary nitriding, microwave synthesis, high temperature self-propagating synthesis and normal pressure one-step synthesis.
There is room for optimization and improvement in the existing preparation processes. In the future, improvements will be continued in terms of simplifying the operating process, shortening the reaction time, and reducing production costs. Silicon manganese nitride is a new type of steel additive that has excellent performance and application advantages compared with conventional nitride alloys.
Silicon manganese nitride has good rapid heat resistance, thermal conductivity, chemical stability and small thermal expansion. Its strong micro-alloying and nitrogen-enhancing effects are used in fields such as oriented silicon steel and HRB400 or above rebar steel bars. It has been widely used and has great market demand.
