Types Of Cored Wire And Their Corresponding Applications

Cored wire can be added more efficiently to steel or molten iron during the steelmaking or casting process. The core wire can be inserted in the desired position by specialized wire feeding equipment. When the core wire skin melts, the core wire can be completely dissolved in the ideal position and undergoes a chemical reaction, which effectively avoids the reaction with air and slag, and improves the absorption rate of the molten material. Core wire is widely used as deoxidizer, desulfurizer, alloy additive, and can change the inclusions in steel. The physical form effectively improves the quality of steelmaking and casting products.

Spherical core wire is the product of strip steel wrapped with banded alloy powder. Due to the different coating powders, it can be categorized into different uses. Steelmaking core wire is usually used as deoxidizer, desulfurizer or carbon additive, for example, CaSi ball core wire can be used as deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steelmaking agent. Carbon ball cores are used as carbon additives in steelmaking and casting, and FeSiMg cores are used as caking agents in castings.

The general data for steelmaking core wire are the weight of the strip per meter and the weight of the powder wrapped per meter. The thickness of spherical cored wire is usually 0.6mm and the weight of the strip is always 170g/m by weight, different alloys will have different figures. For example, CaSi6030 and CaSi5528 core wires have a weight of 230 g/m, while CaFe clad core wires have a weight of 215 g/mm, and carbon clad core wires have a weight of about 150 g/m.

It should be noted that one type of steelmaking spherical core wire is solid calcium core flux wire. The solid calcium core wire is made from pure calcium wire wrapped around a steel strip, which will be easily recovered by wrapping it with a steel strip because pure calcium wire reacts easily with oxygen.

When spherical core wire is used for steel making or casting, the smelted material can be placed in an ideal position in the steel, which can prevent the wrapped powder from reacting with air or slag, and improve the absorption rate of the smelted material.
