Why Purity Matters
The amount of vanadium in steel directly affects how well it works under stress. FeV alloys with 80-85% vanadium (e.g., FeV80) make the grain structures much better, making them stronger and more resistant to breaking. If the iron (FeV) has less than 75% purity, the results may be inconsistent. This can cause weak spots in important parts like the crankshafts used in cars or the alloys used in aeroplanes. ZhenAn guarantees that the composition is within plus or minus 0.5% through vacuum refining and XRF analysis, delivering FeV that meets the ASTM A1027 and ISO 5444 specifications.
The hidden cost of impurities
Some elements, like sulfur (S), phosphorus (P) and carbon (C), can make steel quality worse. Having too much sulfur (>0.05%) can make it more likely that the material will break when it is heated. On the other hand, phosphorus (>0.06%) can reduce how strong the material is if it is hit with something. At ZhenAn, our special method of removing slag makes the levels of impurity in our products less than 0.03%, which is much better than the usual levels in other companies.
