Application of titanium equipment in marine engineering

(1) Offshore oil and gas development

Offshore oil production equipment mainly includes oil production platforms and ancillary equipment. The ancillary equipment includes crude oil coolers, oil rising pipes, pumps, valves, joints and fixtures, etc. These equipments are in contact with sulfide, ammonia, chlorine and other media in seawater and crude oil.

Titanium drilling pipe has a long service life, its weight is only half that of stainless steel, its flexibility of use is twice that of stainless steel, and its service life is 10 times that of stainless steel.

(2) Desalination

Early seawater desalination devices used materials such as copper alloy and carbon steel. Because these materials were not resistant to seawater corrosion and had low production efficiency, they were quickly replaced by titanium materials with excellent seawater corrosion resistance. In seawater desalination, the main application of titanium is the heating heat transfer tube of the desalination unit.

(3) Shipbuilding industry

Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used in ships, such as hull structural parts, deep-sea research vessels, ocean thermal energy conversion, and marine fisheries. For example, titanium metal mesh is currently used for artificial breeding in coastal areas. The titanium metal mesh is basically not corroded at sea and does not need to be replaced after many years of use. A heat exchanger made of titanium tubes is used to heat the seawater to ensure the temperature required by the fish being raised.
