Ferrovanadium contains 35-45% V, 1-3% Si, 0.5-1.5% Al (the rest is Fe and impurities). It is smelted in electric furnaces by silicothermal method from vanadium pentoxide (85-95% VaOz), which is obtained by processing ferrovanadium concentrate with chemical reagents.

It is used mainly for steel production. Ferrovanadium is obtained by reducing technical vanadium pentoxide with silicon, ferrosilicon or aluminum in an electric arc furnace. The method of smelting ferrovanadium depends on the amount of vanadium in the alloy. In ferrous metallurgy, vanadium is the most important alloying element and is widely used in steels and alloys of various types.
