To create ferrosilicon, iron and silicon are melted together. The process involves crushing ore and carbon, which are then placed in a furnace along with scrap iron. At temperatures exceeding 1900°C, carbon reacts with the oxygen in the ore, generating carbon monoxide. The resulting iron and silicon combine to form a liquid known as ferrosilicon, which can be extracted from the furnace's bottom. After cooling, ferrosilicon is ready for shipment and can be used in iron and steel manufacturing. This same technique is also employed to produce silicon with a purity greater than 99%. Additionally, silicon is utilized in steel smelting, aluminum cast alloys, and silane chemicals.
