Calcium Carbide Description
The substance in question is calcium carbide (CaC₂). The substance is a hard lump with a dark grey or brown cross-section. It is a lumpy substance with a slightly deep grey surface and a slight, unpleasant odour. It can produce acetylene gas when mixed with water and will burn when exposed to fire. The acetylene gas will form an explosive gas when mixed with air, with an explosive range of 2.3% to 81%.
